Basic Video Editing

Course Description:
This course teaches the principles of video editing using computers (known as
non-linear editing). Trainees will learn to perform basic editing functions and
understand the art of story-telling using video as the medium. They will become
familiar with the equipment used in a non-linear / digital edit suite, the process
of editing sequences and the role of an editor within a production team. Trainees
will be encouraged to learn and develop their skills through a series of practical
exercises culminating in a major final project.
This course uses Avid Media Composer to introduce concepts and methods that are
transferable to most other editing systems. Each trainee will work on his assigned
workstation, alongside with intensive instruction.
Main Goal of the Course:
This course is designed for the beginner looking to learn the basics of video
editing. It introduces both the edit suite equipment and the techniques used in
digital editing, and gives trainees a chance to develop these skills with practical
experiences.
Pre-requisites:
No academic pre-requisites are required; General awareness of video production
and normal competence with Windows or Mac OS, in addition to Basic English knowledge
is a must.
Enrolment: 6 - 8 trainees only
